Merewether to fly flag in Nudie

SYDNEY (Thursday, 1 September 2016): The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Series will make its return this weekend when the fiercely contested event series kicks off at North Narrabeen.

A range of former World Surf League (WSL) World Championship Tour surfers will be representing their home boardriders clubs when the elite one-day event kicks off on Saturday, 3rd September.

“The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Series is one of the most passionately contested competitions over our event calendar and we’re expecting a solid turnout when event one of the series gets underway this weekend in Narrabeen,” said Surfing NSW CEO Luke Madden.

Participating clubs currently include: Avoca, Bungan, North Shelly, North Avalon, Queenscliff, North Narrabeen, Long Reef, Merewether, North Steyne and North Curl Curl.

The main base for event one of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Series is North Narrabeen Beach.

Merewether will represent Newcastle at the event with the team including Travis Lynch, Jackson Brent, Craig Anderson, Morgan Cibilic, Maddie Poole and Marc Adam.

Early swell forecasts indicate that there will be a one-to-two foot north-east swell on offer for competitors.

All competitors are advised to call the event hotline (0458 247 212) by 6.45am on the days of competition to confirm location and running order.

The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Series will involve more than 60 of Australia’s best boardriders clubs in eight state qualifying rounds and will culminate in a National final in NSW in February 2017 for 24 clubs.

There’s $160,000 cash and prizes up for grabs for clubs across the National series including $24,000 prize money split between the 8 State events and $85,500 prize money across the National Final with the winning boardriders taking home a huge $20,000 and an overseas trip for 6 surfers from the winning club thanks to World Surfaris valued at $30,000. To top things off, there’s an additional $20,000 in prizes across the series.

The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle is officially sanctioned by the World Surf League (WSL), which allows Australian WSL Championship Tour surfers (men and women) the opportunity to represent their local boardriders club at respective state qualifying events and the national final.

The purpose of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle program is to build the profile and capacity of community boardriders clubs Australia-wide. Over the next three years, more than $450,000 will be invested into grassroots clubs through the partnership.

Major sponsors of the 2016/17 series include the naming rights partner nudie and supporting sponsors Toyota, Oakley, Nikon, Milwaukee, Destination NSW, DrinkWise, World Surfaris, Fox Sports, World Surf League, mySURF.tv, XXXX Summer Bright Lager and Surfing Australia.
