29 Oct Anderson through to semis
Newcastle’s Philippa Anderson is through to the semi-final at the Oceano Santa Catrina Pro in Brazil.
The Merewether natural-footer took down world tour surfer Alessa Quizon in the quarter-final in style.
Anderson posted scores of 7.17 and 4.00 – 11.17 to Quizon’s 5.50 and 1.90.
Her great run at the Oceano Pro is the perfect build up for Anderson’s tilt at the World Championships which start next week.
She is representing Australia along with Central Coast surfer Shane Holmes.
‘I’m super happy to make the semis,’ Anderson said from Santa Catrina.
‘I’ve only ever made a 6-star semi once before, back in 2012, so it’s been a while.
‘I’m so stoked!’
Not only is Anderson’s form a brilliant warm-up for the worlds but it gives her the self-belief she needs to make it onto the World Tour.
She has been riding the highs and lows of the life of a pro surfer in the past 18months and this is just the injection in confidence she needs.
‘I think deep down I can surf as good as some of the girls on tour, it’s just been hard the past couple of years getting over the mental side of competing, but this event has definitely given me some confidence and hopefully I can go all the way.’
Regardless of the result, Anderson will take this form into the Worlds and is proud to be representing Newcastle and Australia.
‘It’s so good having a result like this leading up to the Worlds.
‘I’ve been having a great time in Brazil, and I’m super excited to get to Puru and represent my country.’ she said.
